Violin lessons

at Collines d’Or school

Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, Isabelle Lorenzino, community development and communications coordinator for the Association Francophone de Kamloops, has been giving violin lessons to the 7-8th grade students of Collines d’Or school.

A violinist for nearly 30 years and a graduate of the Centre de Formation des Musiciens Intervenants d’Aix-Marseille Université, in France she led music workshops in schools and various community organizations with children and adults. The teachers and principal of Collines d’Or school seized this opportunity to introduce their students to a new artistic and musical universe.

By oral transmission, that is to say without going through music theory and reading sheet music, the students began to learn to play traditional Canadian pieces.

On March 11, they attended a master class by Franco-British-Columbian violinist Gabriel Dubreuil on Zoom. And on May 27, Gabriel Dubreuil came and visited us in Kamloops in person to perform for the school’s 20th anniversary celebrations, and gave the students second master class!

To complete this artistic adventure, they shared their experience by creating of an audio postcard as part of the project An Audio Correspondence in British Columbia.
